Request
The payload is the tag byte 8 followed by the name of the volume as a varint length and UTF-8 bytes, the mode as a varint, and overlay_disk as a varint, in the postcard wire format.
The payload of the request is the tag byte followed by the request in the postcard wire format, as the postcard reading of Notation provides:
[8][name_len: varint][name: utf8 …][mode: varint][overlay_disk: varint]
name. The name of the volume, UTF-8, preceded by its byte length as a varint. It is thenameof a volume in the client’s volumes::list listing.mode. The mode the FUSE serve means the volume to have, as a varint:0persistent,1ephemeral,2read only. A volume in another mode is not served, as the response states; a FUSE serve never changes a volume’s mode.overlay_disk. The most bytes the FUSE serve’s layer may hold, as a varint, for a volume whosemodeisephemeral: the server sets that many bytes aside for the FUSE serve’s life, refuses the FUSE serve with an error when it cannot, and answers with an error a mutation that would take the layer past it. For a volume in any other mode the value has no effect.- Bytes after the request. A server ignores every byte that
follows
overlay_disk. A request whose payload extends past the request is not malformed. - Malformed. A payload with no byte, a payload whose first byte
is not
8, and a payload whose bytes after the tag do not decode as the request are malformed. Endpoints states how a server answers a request it cannot read.
The request is defined by diverge-sdk-rs/src/provider/endpoints/volumes/fuse_serve/client/request/frame.rs:
//! What a client's request frame carries for a volume FUSE serve.
use serde::{Deserialize, Serialize};
use crate::wire::decode::Decode;
use crate::wire::encode::{Encode, Writer};
use crate::provider::endpoints::volumes::Mode;
/// Serve one volume: hold it mounted, and answer the FUSE asks the
/// caller opens on the scope from it.
///
/// # A name, and the same access model as everything else
///
/// The name is a
/// [`Volume::name`](crate::provider::endpoints::volumes::list::server::response::Volume::name)
/// from a listing. A caller cannot examine a volume it was not
/// offered, cannot reach one by naming components, and cannot probe
/// for what exists by asking and reading the error — because a path
/// it invents is not something this request can express.
///
/// Which is the same protection a
/// [`VolumeMount`](crate::shared::containers::request::VolumeMount)
/// and a [`delete`](crate::provider::endpoints::volumes::delete) have, for the
/// same reason: a provider resolves a name it published, against the
/// caller it published it to, and nothing else.
///
/// # The mode is stated, and a volume in another refuses
///
/// The request says which [`Mode`] it means the volume to have, as a
/// run's mount does, and a volume in another mode is not served:
/// the provider answers
/// [`VolumeMode`](crate::shared::containers::response::VolumeMode)
/// with the mode it is in, after holding the volume and giving the
/// hold back, and changes nothing. Only an
/// [`edit`](crate::provider::endpoints::volumes::edit) changes a volume's mode.
